FOUR PROGRAMMES

LEVEL 1: ENTRY LEVEL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING & SUPPORT
EMEP’s basic programme, ‘Beyond the School Wall - Developing Extra-Mural Opportunities’, starts schools on the road towards extra-mural community hubs. It is a pilot programme with the W.Cape Education Department and has the strong support of the national Minsiter and her Council of Education Ministers to become a national programme. We are mid-way through the pilot.
LEVEL 2: THE NETWORK PROGRAMME FOR GRADUATE SCHOOLS
The Network Programme gives further training and support to graduate schools to apply their learnings on site and to form an ongoing practitioner community to share, build, and spread good practice. The Network is the vehicle for the provincial and national movement of extra-mural hub schools supported by the provincial and national education ministries.

LEVEL 3: THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (CDP)
This programme works with a small number of Network Schools which have established extra-mural foundations and are willing and able to take on their deep development as extra-mural hubs over the long-term. There are three ‘streams’ that each school specialises in:
i) child and youth development
ii) parent and family development
iii) community development.

COMBO COMMUNITY+SCHOOL DEVPILOT PROGRAMME: PROJECT HOPE (Rural)
Project Hope is EMEP’s first effort at a rural community development programme using the hub-spokes-rim approach (from both the school-out and the community-in). The aim is to test and demonstrate rural schools’ capacities to serve as extra-mural community hubs. This is a partnership with both the Departments of Social Development and Education in the Western Cape.
